Frequently asked questions
How does Gotalia work?
You open the app and set your phone down near the shower. Gotalia uses the microphone to detect when water is running, tracks how long it flows, and estimates the liters used — then shows you a summary and how it compares with your usual shower.
Is my audio recorded or uploaded?
No. Sound is analysed live, on your device, only to tell whether water is running, and is immediately discarded. Audio is never recorded, saved, or uploaded — ever. See our Privacy Policy.
Why does the app need microphone access?
The microphone is the sensor. It's the only way Gotalia can detect running water without extra hardware or a smart meter. Without microphone permission, the app can't track your shower.
How accurate are the liters?
The liters are estimates based on how long water runs and a general flow-rate assumption, so they're meant for awareness and tracking trends — not for billing or exact measurement. Actual consumption varies with your showerhead and water pressure.
How do I turn analytics on or off?
Go to Settings → Share anonymous analytics inside the app. Analytics are anonymous, never include audio, and you can change your choice at any time.
Does it work with the screen locked?
Keep Gotalia open and the screen on during your shower for the most reliable tracking. Leave the phone nearby and it keeps listening — you don't need to touch it while the water runs.
Which devices and languages are supported?
Gotalia is an iPhone app. It's available in English, Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese, following your device language.
