Privacy Policy

The short version. Gotalia listens for your shower water on your device to estimate how much you use. Your audio never leaves your phone — it is analysed live and is never recorded, stored, or uploaded. The only thing we ever collect is anonymous usage analytics to improve the app, and you can turn that off at any time in Settings.

This policy explains what data Gotalia ("the app", "we") collects and how it is handled. The data controller is Jordi Reina, contact: privacy@gotalia.app.

1. Audio is never collected

To detect when water is running, Gotalia uses your microphone on-device only. The sound is analysed in real time and immediately discarded. No audio recording is created, saved to disk, or transmitted off your device — ever.

2. What we collect (anonymous analytics)

When analytics are enabled (see §3), Gotalia sends anonymous product-analytics events to our processor, Statsig, to understand how the app is used and improve it. This includes:

Usage events — e.g. screens viewed, a shower started/ended, durations, estimated litres, water saved, achievements unlocked, and settings toggled.
An anonymous, randomly-generated per-install identifier (a "stable ID"). It is not your name, email, account, or Apple ID, and is not the device advertising identifier (IDFA).
Basic technical/diagnostic information (e.g. app version, device model, and crash/diagnostic data) used to keep the app working.

We do not collect your name, email, contacts, precise location, audio, or any account — Gotalia has no account system. We do not use this data for advertising or cross-app tracking, and we do not sell it.

3. Your choice & legal basis

In the EU, EEA, and UK, analytics are off by default and only start if you give consent on first launch — our legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). Elsewhere, analytics are on by default on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the app, and you can opt out. Either way, you can change your choice at any time in Settings → Share anonymous analytics. Turning it off stops all collection and discards the anonymous identifier.

4. Who processes the data

Analytics are processed on our behalf by Statsig Inc. as a data processor, under their Data Processing Addendum and Privacy Policy. Data may be processed in the United States under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Statsig maintains SOC 2 Type II certification.

5. Retention

Anonymous analytics events are retained by our processor only as long as needed for product analytics and then aggregated or deleted in line with their retention policy. All your shower history itself is stored only on your device.

6. Your rights

Because the analytics data is anonymous and not linked to your identity, we generally cannot single you out to retrieve or delete a specific person's data. You can still:

Withdraw consent / opt out at any time in Settings (stops future collection).
Delete the app, which removes all on-device data and the anonymous identifier.
Contact us at privacy@gotalia.app with any privacy question or to exercise your GDPR rights (access, erasure, objection, restriction).

7. Children

Gotalia is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country) and we do not knowingly collect their data.

8. Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
